Sandra Salaices
Mexico
Sandra Salaices is a native of México and received a BFA in Metals and Ceramics from the University of Texas at El Paso in 2017. Despite the industrial feel of her pieces her work revolves around nature. Inspired by the symbiosis of lichen, she creates hollow forms with steel mesh and enamel. She also uses natural dyeing to color plain rubber spline. Her early exposure to the family business, a hardware store, influences her material choices. Sandra was the artist in residence for the 2017-2018 term at Southwest School of Art in San Antonio, TX. She currently lives and works in México.
Sandra was featured in Pistachio's Summer 2021 exhibition 'Timeless Cure' alongside Jessica Calderwood, Tanya Crane, Jenne Rayburn, Myriam Saavedra, and Danni Xu.
