French artist Isabelle Mariana approached Things Unsaid with the idea that the brooch, as an object, would express the unspoken meaning of its title—an expression in itself without caption or explanation. Each brooch was to find its own voice, its own autonomous expression, born from the title as an initial intention. Each brooch was to make visible a life that had surfaced from that title. Mariana wishes for each brooch to remain open to interpretation, free to lead its own life through the eyes of others.
