Youjin Um - Gem VIII Brooch and Necklace

Precious Collective

$1,250.00

Korean artist Youjin Um wants to miss and cherish the memories of her happy childhood. When Youjin is tired in life, she goes to the playground next to the church she used to enjoy in the past, as if she were traveling through space on a time machine. Her sculptures are made by sawing and joining them by hand and stacking them as if building a building. Youjin works with silver because it contains the color and light that reminds her of her childhood, the purest moments, and memories. The process of working is also a healing process for Youjin, and when the result is made, she feels relieved that she has another home. Her sculptures are objects and architectural ornaments that represent a metaphor for connection as a second world.
