Rho Tang is a Chinese-born American contemporary jewelry artist based in New York City. Rho approaches jewelry making through an exploration of spatial relationships; composing visual language by invoking elements such as repetition, juxtaposition, and hierarchy.
In Rho’s work the spatial vocabulary emerges from her understanding of contemporary architecture. Emotions arise from spatial perception through movement, interaction, and reflection. She aims to create spatial depth, stimulating cognitive connections with the existing and the surrounding. Integrating external elements such as light, shadow and motion, her work formulates visual dialogues between rigidity and flexibility, cohesion and transience, logic and intuition.
Rho obtained bachelor’s degrees in architecture and fine arts from the Rhode Island School of Design and a master’s degree in urban planning from Architectural Association in London. After more than 10 years of studying and working in the architectural field, Rho seeks to broaden her canvas to a different scale and perspective. Since 2018, Rho has exhibited work in art galleries and museums in the US, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, and China along with other countries.
